The Media and Communication Department gave me the hands on experience I needed for a career in television. The ability to take part in Fisher News and take part in internships was the launching point for my career in television news. I learned a lot about myself and what I was capable of through my involvement in Fisher News and my internships. The Media and Communication Department at Fisher is a small-knit community. Students get to know their fellow classmates within the department really well. They create relationships where they work to help each other succeed. Professors not only know their students by name, but they know what their strengths and weaknesses are. They work with each student to help them reach their goals and help them succeed in starting in their career. They also stay in touch with their alumni and take interest in what they are doing in their careers well after they leave Fisher.
— Gina Capellazzi '06, Community Web Producer/News Producer, News 10NBC, Rochester, NY
Fisher’s Media and Communication Department helped me prepare for my post-college life in ways I’d never imagined. They introduced me to the right people to have in my network that could get me where I wanted to go with my career. With the right line-up of courses and direction of how to move from the classroom into a career I was able to successfully transition into a full time position just weeks after graduation. So many of my classes were not standard but rather often had us out filming videos, presenting presentations or working in groups which was always a great way to expand my skill set and meet other people in the department. Fisher’s Media and Communication Department opened so many doors for me both on campus and after graduation. From fun and engaging classes to involved and dedicated professors, it was the perfect fit for me.
— Lindsay Campbell '09, Senior Account Executive, Access PR, New York City
Participating in clubs like CTV has really prepared me for where I am today. Since Fisher has more of a tight-knit community, I was able to be given leadership roles earlier on in my college career. Collaborating with other students and faculty, meeting deadlines and figuring out ways to face challenges were all things we dealt with on a daily basis. It has given me the confidence to really take charge and be prepared in a professional work setting.

One aspect of the Media and Communication Department that I really valued was the connection and bond you were able to make with your professors. Speaking with friends and colleagues who went to larger universities, they didn’t know their professors at all. Through the SJFC Media and Communication Department you feel like you are able to make a personal connection with the faculty and staff, which really enhances the learning process.
